Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about starting and running a virtual airline with vAirOps.
What is a virtual airline? +
A virtual airline (VA) is an online community that recreates a real or fictional airline inside flight simulators such as Microsoft Flight Simulator and X-Plane. Members fly scheduled routes, log every flight, climb a pilot rank structure and share the experience together - with no real-world aircraft involved.
How do I start my own virtual airline? +
With vAirOps you can create your virtual airline in minutes: choose a name and callsign, add your fleet and routes, then invite pilots. There is nothing to install or host - everything runs in your browser. Our step-by-step guide walks you through every stage. Guide →
How much does vAirOps cost? +
vAirOps is EUR 14.99 per month (around EUR 149 a year) for unlimited pilots and routes, and you can start with a free trial. The OpsLink ACARS client your pilots use to track their flights is completely free.
Do I need to install or host anything like phpVMS? +
No. Unlike self-hosted systems such as phpVMS, vAirOps is fully hosted for you - there is no server to rent, no PHP or Laravel to maintain, and no updates or backups to worry about. See exactly how we compare. Compare →
What is OpsLink and which simulators does it support? +
OpsLink is our free ACARS client that automatically tracks your flights and files PIREPs for you. It works with Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020 and 2024) and X-Plane 11 and 12, and needs no FSUIPC or extra add-ons.
Does vAirOps work with VATSIM and IVAO? +
Yes. You can set your virtual airline to require or recommend VATSIM, IVAO, both or neither, and your pilots can link their network IDs to their vAirOps profile.
