Why teams move from phpVMS to vAirOps
- ✓Zero setup - no server to install, update, back up or secure.
- ✓ACARS included free - phpVMS tracks nothing on its own; vmsACARS is paid and smartCARS is a separate add-on. OpsLink ships with MSFS + X-Plane and needs no FSUIPC.
- ✓Anti-cheat built in - time-acceleration and teleport detection plus landing and flight-rule scoring run on the server.
- ✓A 6-language interface out of the box, web and desktop.
- ✓Modern pilot experience - live map, badges, tours, hour-based ranks, SimBrief dispatch and multi-VA, without hunting for third-party modules.
Trade-off: phpVMS is open-source and free at the core, so if you want full control and enjoy running your own server, it is still a great choice. vAirOps is for people who would rather skip the hosting and maintenance entirely.
The hosted phpVMS alternative →Why pick vAirOps over vAMSYS
- ✓6 languages (EN, TR, DE, ES, FR, RU) vs English-only - a native-language panel for Turkish and European pilots.
- ✓EUR 14.99/month with unlimited pilots - predictable cost as you grow, versus GBP 25/month.
- ✓Built-in OpsLink ACARS for MSFS and X-Plane, with no FSUIPC.
- ✓Web-first and multi-VA - registration and management entirely in the browser; run several isolated VAs with their own branding.
- ✓Aviation-accurate by design - UTC, pressure-altitude flight levels, great-circle distances and server-side rule evaluation.
vAMSYS is the established market leader with a deep feature set. vAirOps is newer and leaner, and competes on language coverage, price and built-in tracking.
Being straight with you
vAirOps is newer than both. We do not try to match every feature. There is no Discord bot (just an invite link), the web live map shows position, heading, VATSIM/IVAO sectors and a weather radar (not altitude, speed or METAR), and some advanced tools - Navigraph charts, auto-reject, network prefile - are not here yet. What we do, we aim to do accurately.
Comparison FAQ
Is vAirOps free?
vAirOps is EUR 14.99/month with unlimited pilots and a free trial, and the OpsLink ACARS pilot app is free. phpVMS core is free but self-hosted and needs a separate paid ACARS; vAMSYS is GBP 25/month.
Does vAirOps include flight tracking (ACARS)?
Yes. OpsLink ACARS is built in and free, for MSFS and X-Plane, with no FSUIPC required. phpVMS has no built-in ACARS - you add vmsACARS or smartCARS.
Can I migrate from phpVMS to vAirOps?
vAirOps is a different platform, not a phpVMS fork, so phpVMS plugins and themes do not carry over and data migration is manual and limited. In return you drop all the self-hosting and maintenance.
What languages does vAirOps support?
Six: English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French and Russian, across the web interface and the pilot app. phpVMS is effectively single-language and vAMSYS is English-only.
Do I have to self-host like phpVMS?
No. vAirOps is fully hosted - there is no server to install, update or maintain. You create your VA from the web in minutes.
